Wonder Woman #27 Review

After reading the first issue of this new story arc, I am happy to say that Shea Fontana has filled the shoes of Greg Rucka left behind. However, she still has quite a long way to go before to have a story that can compare to the first stories of Rebirth. However, with what this new story is promising, I can't wait to read more.

Last issue, we saw Diana suffer a loss on a mission but pushed people away as she did not wish to share the burden. Etta Candy, Diana's best friend, decides to remedy this by having Diana join her for a family wedding. Everything looks like it's going great, but when she is assisting Etta's niece in finding her shoe, she found a very EXPLOSIVE wedding gift. I'm certain the bride and groom will be BLOWN AWAY by it... It's a bomb if the puns weren't clear.

Superman #27 Review

When talking in my comic social circle, the topic of the current Superman comic is usually split. On the one hand, some fans enjoy the family dynamic that first appeared in the Lois and Clark comic series during the Road to Rebirth phase, with Clark now teaming up and training his son to be the Boy of Tomorrow. On the other hand, some want the book to focus on the Man of Steel and him alone. 

While I can see why I personally have been enjoying these stories, watching Jon grow-up as Superman is growing into his role as protector of Earth. With every passing story, we watched the pair face off against bigger and bigger threats, ranging from Dinosaurs to Mxyzptlk to Manchester Black. 

So after all of these crazy events in the past year, what could this crazy family be up to next? Well lets dive in and find out!

Batman #27 Review

Tom King might be one of my favorite writers in the current comic scene. The first story I read of his was the critically acclaimed Marvel series, The Vision, which had turned one of the Avengers into something creepy and even sinister at times. It made the character so much more fascinating as we watched The Vision strive to become more human. 

After that series concluded, I found his work at DC. The super-spy thriller series, Grayson, and the dark sci-fi series, The Omega Men. Everything I found from him was so well written, I became ecstatic to see he was chosen to write the Batman stories when Rebirth was released. As expected, every story put out in this series has been fantastic(with the exception of the Night of the Monster Men crossover), and the opening to the recent story arc, The War of Jokes and Riddles, is no exception.

In the first two parts, we watched the Riddler and Joker gather their resources and allies to prepare for the war, showing off each of the characters' strengths. Now the war has begun and all of Gotham is stuck in the middle. Who will be hurt in this war between Supervillains? Time to find out.

Dark Days: The Casting #1 Review

The Dark Days event has intrigued me since it was first announced. By the looks of the preview, the future that it was leading to could be seen as a darker world of Injustice, where Batman assumed control. From the Forge, we learn that Batman is trying to look into something called the 'Dark Dimension' as it seems to be connected to this metal compound that he is related to The Court of Owls and Endgame storylines. So how will this all connect? What is the Dark Dimension and why should we be afraid? And more importantly: How is Hawkman involved in any of this? Let's dive in and find out!

The Flash #21 Review

The Flash has kind of had a rough year. Not that the book is bad, far from it; The book is phenomenal. What I actually mean is that the Flash's life has been rough. He gets a new force of speedsters to train, only for them to either lose their powers, die, or vanish in the case of budding love interest Mina in the attack from Godspeed. He faced the criminal organization, Black Hole, witnessed the return of The Rogues, entered The Shade's realm of shadows, investigated the murder of his greatest foe, Reverse Flash, and now has witnessed his rebirth. As I said, a VERY rough year.

So what is the Reverse Flash's goals this time around? The same as always, destroy his life of course! Step one was to kidnap the love of his life, Iris West. Step two was to reveal his identity to said love interest. It's now time to see the aftermath of this event and honestly, I don't think it can get much worse... Right?

Wonder Woman #26 Review

I won't lie when I say that this issue had me a bit worried. Not only is this the first issue of a new story arc, but the first issue for a new creative team. While the prospect might seem exciting, I wasn't expecting the writer to be Shea Fontana, the creator of the family friendly DC Super Hero Girls series. That's not to say DC Super Hero Girls is bad(it's actually quite adorable), but it feels like a huge leap from a series meant for children to one of DC's biggest faces. It also doesn't help that it's coming off of the critically acclaimed Greg Rucka Rebirth run, leaving massive shoes to fill in its wake.

This leaves the questions: How does this first issue hold up? Does it fill the hole that Rucka had created?

Suicide Squad #21 Review

Suicide Squad has been a bit of a hit-and-miss when it comes to their series thus far. For example, I enjoyed the first Black Vault storyline but wasn't a fan of Justice League vs Suicide Squad. I wasn't a fan of the Burning Down the House story but enjoyed Going Sane and Earthlings on Fire.  While I can't say it's a bad series, I can't say it's a phenomenal one either. In my opinion, It's the series you'd pick up if you had nothing else to read. 

In the conclusion of Earthlings on Fire, we saw the death of Rick Flagg(which in the world of comics means nothing), leaving Task Force X leaderless. The following issue had Amanda Waller study all of the members to see who could possibly be the new leader. Could it be the hero Katana? The cold calculating Deadshot? How about we pick the insane ex-girlfriend of the Joker? Because that makes perfect sense and won't get them into trouble.

Maybe I'm being too hard on this decision. Today is the start of a new mission and storyline. Will Harley lead the team towards victory or destruction? Let's find out!

Titans #13 Review

The Titans series might be one of, if not the, best series in the Rebirth line up. It has relatable characters, epic action, FANTASTIC art etc. I never thought I missed a team up like this, yet it's always near the top of my must have comic list. The only negative I have had with the series was during the Lazarus Contract and it really pertained to their teen counterparts.

In the wake of the Lazarus Contract, the heart of the Titans has been shaken. Wally West, The Flash, has had his heart damaged in the past, meaning if he runs too fast, his heart could fail him. In that vulnerable state, love has blossomed amongst the team. Wally and Donna find each other, breaking Roy's heart, while Lillith grew close to Garth. Lillith also learned that one of the Titans will betray the team. Who will it be? Let's find out how the team handles this revelation!

Red Hood and The Outlaws #12 Review

Fun fact for readers: I'm not the biggest fan of Red Hood. Truth be told, I've had a huge disdain for the character after the Under the Red Hood. After that story, he had just been the one trick pony of being a killer Batman, who was obsessed with taking over the cowl. I honestly didn't think that there was any Red Hood series that would interest me. That was when I saw his Rebirth series would have him team up with Artemis, a rogue Amazon, and the backwards bruiser himself, Bizarro.

In the past two story arcs, we have watched the team grow closer while kicking all forms of rear. The first arc had them betraying and overthrowing Black Mask in Gotham, uniting to as their goals aligned. When the Bow of Ra, what Artemis has been looking for, revealed itself, the team ended up divided against an old Amazonian. The outcome of that was that Artemis gained the bow for her arsenal... And Bizarro was mortally wounded. What's going to happen to the backwards bruiser? Let's find out!
